The problem: all our activities have an impact on the environment, this is undeniable.

fight against climate change

The solution lies in everything Picture Organic Clothing has been doing since 2008: making the brand part of a sustainable development approach, with a good dose of fun:

  • Break out of conventional production models,

  • Promote responsible consumption.

OK, but they alone are a drop in the ocean. We must therefore train as many people from our community as possible, partners, actors in the outdoor and clothing industry in a process of sobriety, energy transition and decarbonisation of the economy.

Fighting against climate change through our passion for sport and the outdoors, this is Picture's mission and we at Neverland Firenze embrace it with enthusiasm.

Today we need to do more to effectively combat climate change.

On a global scale, the conclusions of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) insist on 4 major levers, to be activated all at the same time, to drastically reduce our emissions by increasing our ability to sequester the CO2 already present in the atmosphere.

  • Get out of dependence on fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) in favor of low-carbon energy: solar, wind, geothermal, hydraulic, biomass and nuclear. The role of governments is essential for this decarbonisation of our societies to be massive.

  • Reduce energy needs , change our behavior (consumption, travel), our lifestyles and business lifestyles. That is to say, be sober. The role of individuals and especially of companies is crucial here.

  • Increase the ability of natural carbon sinks to capture CO2 from the atmosphere and sequester it. We are talking about forests, soils and wetlands here.

  • Develop CO2 capture technologies . This last point cannot in any way be seen as a miraculous solution if the first 3 points are not completed.

Materials, durability and sobriety:

The conventional way to make a ski jacket is to first extract the oil. However, there are other solutions.

Did you know that the textile industry is responsible for around 7% of global CO2 emissions?

Going off the beaten track using less impacting materials and processes is the starting point of our environmental commitment.

Natural and organic materials:

92% of the cotton we use is organic.

-46% reduction in CO2 emissions.

3.7 tons CO2 capture per hectare of flax.

-93% water requirement compared to conventional cotton.

Recycled materials:

69% of the polyester used to make Picture technical clothing is recycled from plastic bottles.

2.5 times less * CO2 emissions

6 times less * oil

Materials of biological origin:

Materials of biological origin

Bio-polyester partially obtained from sugar cane. 60% of their technical products are affected. Tencel & Eco Vero, from sustainably managed and FSC certified forests. 10 times higher yield than a cotton crop, 50% less water and 50% less CO2 emissions than conventional viscose.

Refurbished materials:

Their long-term partnerships with factories allow them to move away from classic production models. They collect technical fabric scraps from their productions to reintegrate them into the linings of some products (jackets, sleeping bags). Each of these liners is a unique blend of a multitude of colors chosen at random.

Normally, these fabrics are destroyed by incineration and the carbon impact of this process is disastrous for the environment.

PFC-free water repellent treatment:

100% of their technical products that use water repellent treatments are guaranteed to be PFC free. PFCs (perfluorocarbons) are chemical substances historically used in technical fabrics to ensure the water repellency of products. During the manufacture of the garment and also during its use, PFCs are released into the air and are harmful to the environment and to humans. ‍ Picture's alternative is 100% PFC-free Teflon EcoElite ™.

Avitera SE Stain:

The dye solution for organic cotton lifestyle products made in Turkey. -50% water saving, at equivalent production volume, compared to a conventional dye. -50% energy, at equivalent production volume, compared to a conventional dye.

However, there are other solutions.

  • The first is to recycle plastic bottles to create yarn, which Picture has been doing since 2008. However, these bottles remain petroleum waste. This is a solution that we cannot be satisfied with in the medium term.

  • The second is called bio-supply. In the specific case of a ski jacket, it involves creating a fabric from a plant: sugar cane or castor beans, for example. The short term goal is to generalize the use of bio-sourcing in their technical collection. 60% of technical products are affected.

  • The last one is still in the early stages but they are already working on it. This is the bio-recycling of garments used to recover polyester yarn, and therefore to create new products in a circular economy. This is the most promising solution in the medium to long term.
